As global leaders gather in Glasgow, Scotland for a summit on Climate Change and its impact as well as rising sea levels, Island nations must be taken seriously in the scheme of things and oil exploration stopped, Seychelles president Wavel Ramakalawan has said.
The Seychelles president spoke at the COP26 as he addressed the future of energy production as he insisted that oil exploration in the Pacific Ocean must end immediately.

“We are already seeing some of our islands changing shape. We are seeing some of our islands losing so much landmass,” Wavel Ramkalawan told the BBC on Thursday.“There can be only one way forward. And that is to take us seriously. And to come to our help,” the Seychelles leader pleaded and added that the wealthier nations need to “step up their game.”

“We’ve rather got to look at wind energy, sun energy – at what is natural and what is renewable. We’ve got to move to energy that is sustainable, renewable. But not only that, which is safe and energy that will protect the planet. Simple as that.”

African leaders and their representatives are participating in the Summit which is hoped to bring lasting development to the continent.
