Rivers Guber 2023: I’m Ready To Work For Common Good – Tonto Dikeh 

Popular Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh who is the African Democratic Congress (ADC) deputy gubernatorial candidate for the 2023 election in Rivers State, has expressed her readiness to take up the responsibility of working for the common good of the people.

Dike recently announced through her Instagram handle that she has been selected as the running mate of the ADC governorship candidate in Rivers State, Tonte Ibraye.

Speaking in an interview at Channels Television ‘Sunday Politics’ show, the celebrity and mother of one, said she has been a controversial person but has always taken issues of leadership serious.

She admitted having made mistakes in the past but vowed to make necessary amendments in order to put in her best in serving the state when the party wins the election.

On the question of her capability to deliver as a deputy governor, the movie celebrity said she has been in politics and also handled leadership positions for some years now. According to her, one of them is through her Tonto Dikeh foundation, a non-governmental organisation she founded in year 2000 to offer welfare services to displaced and underprivileged children, girls, youths and women in different parts of Africa.

In 2017 during the Muslim Eid Mubarak, Dikeh through the foundation fed over 2,000 Muslim children.

Dike also highlighted her involvement and partnership with Committee of Youth on Mobilization Sensitisation (CYMS), an organisation poised to empower more young people in an attempt to promote good governance in the country.

The thespian remarked that the call to serve as a deputy governor is a big one and she is prepared to take it to its full length.

She said “a deputy is a spare tyre” and she was willing to not just be one but the best any governor would ever have.

Dike also stated that she is a strong believer in change and an advocate of women and youth inclusion in politics, adding that the time was now for the youths to take over the political space and practice what the political elders have thought them.

She also noted that their aim isn’t to be aggressive or hostile towards the present political leaders and other political parties but to love them and create the ‘change’.

Speaking on her personal life and antecedents, she boasted of being an up and doing mother, and has rendered social and economic supports to many people especially, during the COVID-19 pandemic.

On probe about her character she said, “Criticism or no criticism I am ready.”

Dikeh further explained that she and her principal was on a ‘rescue mission’, and would invest in social security, encourage local production to increase export and support the growth of small-scale businesses.

On the question about their strategies and modalities for winning the election she refused to disclose them, terming it a secret.

On his part, Ibraye said he did not make a mistake in choosing the movie star as his running mate, adding that they are coming to rescue the state.
