Remo Stars Beats 3SC, Qualifies For ‘Super 8’

Remo Stars of Ikenne on Friday evening confirmed their participation in the inuagural edition of the Naija Super 8 preseason tournament with an emphatic 3-0 win over Shooting Stars at the Eket Township stadium.

The game which was the second of the day at the venue following Lobi Stars’ 4-3 penalty triumph at the expense of City FC of Abuja after pulsating 2-2 draw in 90 minutes was the classification game for teams in the South Western region of Nigeria.

Andy Okpe scored the first goal of the match inside the six-yard box when he swivelled and expertly placed the ball on the bottom right corner in the 7th minute.

Towering defender Boniface Nwaeze doubled the lead with a textbook header moments after the opening goal, this tone from a corner kick.

Samuel Anaekwe completed the rout in the second half to make it 3-0 against 3SC.

The ‘Oluyole Warriors’ could not come back from the brink of defeat letting Remo grab the ticket to represent the South West at the main tournament at the Moboloji Johnson Arena in July.

Two teams qualified for the preliminary rounds of the tournament each of the geographical regions from fans’ votes.

The games are on knock out basis and could be settled by penalty shootouts if two teams end their contest with a draw at full time.

Six teams will emerge for the tournament proper in Lagos with two teams handed wild cards to bring the number of participating teams to eight.

Remo Stars who narrowly missed being crowned as Nigeria’s champions earlier this month at the NPL Championship play-off in Lagos as they came second behind Enyimba International FC of Aba.
