Newly promoted Sporting Lagos earned a 4-2 win over Remo Stars via penalty shootout to win the inuagural edition of the Naija Super 8 title and win the cash prize of N25m.

Sporting Lagos only gained promotion to the Nigeria Premier League few weeks ago after beating Abeokuta Stormers

The regulation time ended 1-1 and the clash went straight into penalty shootout at the fully-packed Mobolaji Johnson Arena Stadium, Onikan on Sunday.

Salaudeen Aliu gave Sporting Lagos the lead in the 52nd minute after the first half ended goalless.

Adams Olamilekan thought he had restored parity for Remo Stars with four minutes to go only for the goal to be chalked off for offside.

The Sky Blue Stars would not give up and their persistency was rewarded with Olamilekan again finding the back of the net in the 93rd minute to send the tie straight into penalty shootout.

The newly-promoted NPL side then won the shootout 4-2 to emerge Champions of the maiden edition of the Naija Super 8 competition.

The Noisy Lagosians as they are fondly called will coast home with a cash prize of N25m, while Remo Stars will be rewarded with N9m.

Remo Stars have now failed to win their first two matches against Sporting Lagos, with the first match ending 2-1 in favour of the Paul Offor-led team.
