The Kwara State Police Command says it arrested 16 suspected criminals and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a series of operations targeting kidnapping and violent crimes across the state in April, Prime Business Africa reports.
In a statement issued on May 2, the Command disclosed that the exhibits recovered include 98 rounds of ammunition comprising 20 assault rounds and 78 AK-47 rounds alongside additional AK-47 ammunition, locally fabricated firearms, and a Toyota Matrix vehicle believed to have been used for criminal activities.
Other items seized include a shotgun, a cut-to-size shotgun, a pistol, a revolver rifle, mobile phones, and other materials described as incriminating.

The police also confirmed a rescue operation at Apata Aje settlement, where operatives engaged suspected bandits in a gun duel, resulting in the neutralisation of one suspect.
According to the statement, the operation followed intelligence reports that armed men had invaded the settlement on April 28 at about 11 p.m., abducting two persons. A joint team of police operatives and forest guards was subsequently deployed for a search-and-rescue mission.
“During an intensive bush-combing exercise, the operatives made contact with the fleeing suspects, who opened fire,” the Command said, adding that one of the suspects was killed in the exchange, while others escaped with gunshot wounds.
Further items recovered at the scene include live cartridges, expended ammunition, mobile devices among them a Samsung A2S and suspected charms, which police say indicate the organised nature of the criminal network.
The Command said efforts are ongoing to rescue the abducted victims and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling kidnapping and banditry, vowing sustained pressure on criminal syndicates operating within Kwara State.
