EditorNigerian feature film, Eyimofe (This Is My Desire) has been selected as winner of the World Cinema Jury Award.
Eyimofe was chosen by members of the World Cinema Exchange jury: Hugo Emmerzael (film cricic), Absaline Hehakaya (Dutch Film Foundation) and Shariff Nasr (filmmaker) at the 11th edition of World Cinema Amsterdam.
In the debut film, Arie and Chuko Esiri painted a realistic portrait of every day life in the large Nigerian city of Lagos by telling the stories of the fortunes of two of its inhabitants, who both dreamt of Europe.
Set in Lagos, Nigeria, Eyimofe, a two-chapter film, follows the stories of Mofe (Jude Akuwudike), a factory technician, and Rosa (Temi Ami-Williams), a hairdresser, on their quest for what they believed would be a better life on foreign shores.
Arie and Esiri will also get cash prize of €5000 for a future film project.
The World Cinema Exchange Award went to “The Man Who Sold His Skin” and the Audience Award went to “The Mercy of the Jungle” by Rwandese director, Joel Karekezi.
He received a cash prize of €5000 for a future film project. The second place was shared by “Dealing with Death” (Paul Sin Nam Rigter) and “Ghana for You” (Adams Mensah).

World Cinema Amsterdam is an annual film festival hosted by Rialto and De Balie, focusing on films from Latin America, the Caribbean Islands, Asia and Africa.
The festival offers a variety of beautiful films from the regions, providing an unforgettable perspective on life in these parts of the world.
