Nigeria’s Amina Mohammed reappointed UN Deputy Secretary-General

Antonio Guterres who was newly re-elected Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), has reappointed Nigeria’s Amina Mohammed Deputy Secretary-General of the UN.

Addressing the press after taking the oath of office for a second term, Guterres said he had asked Mohammed to continue in office with him for a second term. He hopes that the former Nigerian Minister of Environment will accept the offer.

Recall that Mohammed had also served as Special Adviser to Ban Ki-moon on post-2015 development planning, which focused on the 2030 agenda for sustainable development goals.

Mohammed, a politician and diplomat was Nigeria’s Minister of Environment from 2015 to 2016 and was a key player in the UN’s Post-2015 Development Agenda process.
