How Loss Of Over $5 Trillion In U.S. Stock Exchange Affects Nigeria

Nigerian stock investors lost over N30 billion as the Nigerian Stock Exchange fell by -0.1 percent in market capitalisation that dropped to N26.96 trillion from N26.99 trillion.

It was dragged down by the All-Share Index which fell by 54.42 basis points, down to 49,991.41 ASI, from 50,045.83.

At the end of trading, investors exchanged 200.91 million shares in 3,976 deals valued at N1.44 billion.

It was in contrast to the 240.02 million shares, valued at N2.67 billion, that was traded in 3,435 deals on Friday.

Top five gainers 

  • Chams share appreciated by 7.69 percent to rise from N0.26kobo to N0.28kobo per.
  • Flour Mill stock grew N1.25kobo, up from N28.05 to N29.30kobo per share.
  • Nigerian Breweries ended trading with N48.75kobo from N47 per share, rising by N1.75kobo.
  • Pharmadeko gained 2.63 percent to end trading at N1.95kobo, having opened with N1.90kobo.
  • NPF Microfinance stock was up by 2.47 percent, closing with N1.66kobo from N1.62kobo per share.

Top five losers

  • Associated Bus Company depreciated by –9.68 percent, dwindling from N0.31kobo to N0.28kobo per share.
  • Japaul Gold also fell by 9.09 percent to end trading at N0.30kobo, after opening with N0.33kobo per share.
  • NGX Group followed the same path, losing N1 after trading hours, to sell at N21 from N22 per share.
  • Wapco reported a decline of N1.05 from previous day’s share price of N25 to end trading at N23.95kobo per share.
  • Cutix share depreciated to N2.04 from N2.12kobo, after losing 3.77percent during trading hours. 

Nigerian stock investors: Top five trading equities in stock exchange

  • Sterling Bank reported 90.89 million shares valued at N131.89 million were traded on its floor.
  • Fidelity Bank recorded 11.60 million shares valued at N39.74 million.
  • UBA saw investors trade 10.64 million of its shares valued at N76.75 million
  • GTCO recorded 9.99 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N199.23 million
  • Zenith Bank reported 9.49 million valued at N203.07 billion, exchanged investors hands
