Nigerian Govt Must Prioritise Investment In Agriculture To Boost Economy – Experts

The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Joseph Utsev, has expressed the resolve of the Federal Government to use the country’s water resources as a strategy to boost production of food and ensure that food was secured in the country, especially in the current critical state of the country’s economy.

He gave this assurance during his first visit to the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority and the Oyan Dam in Ogun State.

The Minister regretted the continuous flooding in parts of Ogun and Lagos states as a result of release of water from the Oyan river.

He expressed his displeasure in the eay people indiscriminately built houses on water plains but promised to collaborate with the concerned state governments in order to handle the situation.

Also, during the visit, the minister was taken round some of the water facilities, including the Oyan River Dam located in the Abeokuta North Local Government Area of the state by the Managing Director of the Basin Authority, Olufemi Odumosun.

He assured Nigerians of using the country’s water resources to promote food security abundance and also help alleviate poverty in the land.

The minister alongside Balarabe Lawal, his Environment counterpart and the Governor of Ogun state, Dapo Abiodun, are expected to visit some areas affected by the flood in Isheri area of the state.
