“Egun” emerged as the top-grossing Nollywood movie at the box office, for the second week in a roll. The Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN) reported a seven-day gross of ₦9.1 million between November 17 and 23, 2023, cementing “Egun” as the movie to watch.
Debuting on November 17, “Egun” secured the third spot on the charts during its first week, trailing behind Hollywood giants “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” and “The Marvels.”
Written by Kayode Kasum and Dare Olaitan, this November release has captivated Nigerian audiences with its narrative centering around a corporate office plunged into chaos when an unexpected package containing juju arrives.
Following closely in the rankings is “Adire,” securing the second position as the second most-watched Nollywood title, with a commendable seven-day gross of ₦5.5 million.
Premiering on November 3, this FilmOne original delves into the life of a young female fashion entrepreneur navigating the repercussions of her past. With last week’s figures, “Adire” has amassed a total gross of ₦26.1 million since its theatrical debut.
Maintaining its status as a crowd favorite is the latest installment in AY Makun’s comedy-crime drama franchise, “Merry Men 3.” With a seven-day gross of ₦5.1 million, the film has accrued an impressive ₦114 million in the six weeks since its debut.
While these Nollywood films captivated audiences, Hollywood productions like “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” and “The Marvels” held the top spots.
The former concluded its first week with a total gross of ₦31.7 million, while the latter secured a ₦29.2 million gross in its second week, accumulating ₦81.4 million overall after two weeks in Nigerian cinemas.
