Lola Mewu Sets New Guinness World Record

Nigerian artist Lola Mewu has etched her name into art history by achieving a remarkable feat – breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest continuous painting session, a marathon that spanned an impressive 72 hours.

Mewu’s accomplishment surpassed the previous record of 60 hours, previously held by Roland Palmerts of France since 2013.

This extraordinary journey of creativity and endurance commenced on Saturday, October 28, 2023, and concluded with triumphant strokes on Tuesday, October 31.

Throughout this marathon endeavour, Lola Mewu conjured a diverse array of artworks, with some focusing on nostalgic childhood scenes that captivated the hearts of onlookers and art enthusiasts. Several of her paintings have already found new homes through auction.

During the marathon, renowned Nigerian dancer Kaffy connected with Lola through a video call, offering words of motivation and encouragement. Kaffy not only stood by Mewu in spirit but also provided invaluable advice, ensuring that her journey towards the world record was steadfast.

Kaffy exclaimed, “I’m here with you in spirit, and I can’t wait for you to be a fellow Guinness World Record holder. Just keep pushing it. What’s the current record?” To this, Lola and her dedicated team responded with, “60 hours.” Kaffy’s response was one of boundless optimism, saying, “You’ve surpassed it already; just keep surpassing it because they are going to do deductions after their own check. Just keep pushing.”
