The President of Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, NWF, Dr Abdul Ibrahim has expressed his elation at the outstanding performance of Nigeria’s gold winning weightlifter at the ongoing IWF World Championship in Uzbekistan, Stella Peter Kingsley.

Kingsley on Wednesday night booked a place in the 2022 Commonwealth Games with her first gold medal at the IWF Global World Championship in Uzbekistan.

The Championship served as qualifiers to the Commonwealth in Birmingham, England next year.

The president who stated this shortly after the 19 years old won the gold in lifting a total of 168kg in the 49kg female category said her efforts justified why the federation, despite lack of fund, camped the lifters two months before the championship.

“I am deeply excited. I am really happy. This is a product of hard work and dedication. We camped the athletes for two months before the championship even when we do not have money and this is the reward.

“I have no doubt in Stella’s ability just like other lifters in Uzbekistan, they worked hard to be where they are now. So I am proud of her,” he said.

“I’m very much happy. I’m super grateful to God Almighty, ” the teenage sensation Stella Peter Kingsley said in excitement.

“You know, they say if you want something you won’t just sit at a place and expect miracle to happen. You have to stand up and work for what you want.

“I wanted the gold so badly, I trained for it and I’m grateful my effort wasn’t in vain,” she said. She thanked Nigerians, her coaches and the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, President and board for their support.
