The Federal Government has confirmed the safe arrival of 11 Nigerian Air Force (NAF) personnel in Accra, Ghana, following their temporary detention in Burkina Faso after an emergency landing, Prime Business Africa reports.
The officers arrived in Accra on December 19, 2025, aboard a Nigerian Air Force C-130 aircraft, according to a statement issued by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar (OON).
The personnel had been held briefly by Burkinabe authorities after the aircraft made an emergency landing in the country. However, the situation was resolved through diplomatic engagement and peaceful dialogue between Nigeria and Burkina Faso, leading to the release of the officers and clearance for the aircraft to continue its journey.

On arrival in Accra, the NAF personnel were received by Ghana’s Special Envoy to the Alliance of Sahel States, Colonel Larry Gbevlo-Lartey, who represented the President of the Republic of Ghana. Officials of the Nigerian High Commission in Accra and senior officers of the Ghana Air Force were also present. The officers were given a warm reception and hosted by their Ghanaian counterparts.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry disclosed that the personnel are scheduled to depart Accra for Portugal on Saturday, December 20, 2025.
Ambassador Tuggar expressed the appreciation of the Nigerian government to the authorities of Burkina Faso and Ghana for their cooperation, reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to resolving regional and international issues through dialogue, mutual respect and constructive diplomatic engagement.
