Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated eternal rivals Ghana 2-1 in Friday’s international friendly at the Stade de Marrakech in Morocco as the Nigerian side without a substantive head coach prepare for the resumption of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying series in June, reports Prime Business Africa.

The first half was heading towards a stalemate after the Eagles spurned a couple of goal-scoring chances but Rangers of Scotland striker Cyreil Dessers stepped up from 12 yards to convert a 37th minute penalty.

The Eagles had chances to put the game beyond the Ghanaians while goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali showed glimpses of his African Cup of Nations form.

The Afcon finalists had the numerical advantage when Ghana’s Jerome Opoku was dished the red card for a dangerous foul.

The duo of Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho produced a great combination of passes before the latter found Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman to roof the ball to the top hand corner.

Ghana restored some pride late into added time when Jordan Ayew scored from the penalty spot after a Black Stars player was brought down in the area.

The match did not produce further goals as both sides now prepare for their next international homes.
