Nigeria is set to participate in the inuagural edition of the Amputee Football WAFF Women’s World Cup 2024.
The tournament is scheduled to take place in the city of Barranquilla, Colombia, from November 2 to 11, 2024.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelPrime Business Africa gathered that 15 teams will take part in the tournament with Nigeria joining six other African countries namely: Angola, Cameroon, Ghana, Liberia, Rwanda and Kenya.
“This historic tournament seeks to showcase the resilience, skill, and spirit of women’s amputee football on a global stage,” a statement from the organisers read.
The organisers disclosed that qualification series to Barranquilla has been marked by ‘stringent criteria’ to ensure that only the most committed and prepared federations earn the right to participate.
The federation emphasizes that ‘adherence to specific guidelines’ is imperative for entry, underscoring the importance of financial responsibility, punctuality, and effective communication within the global amputee football community.
Out of the initial pool of applicants, 15 teams have successfully met the criteria of submitting their applications on time, laying the foundation for a competitive and well-prepared field.
These teams, including traditional football powerhouses and emerging talents, represent a diverse array of nations from different corners of the globe.
However, the journey is not without its challenges. Two teams, though expressing their eagerness to compete, face the task of settling their WAFF membership fees from previous years by January 30, 2024.
