NDLEA Arrests Businessman at Kano Airport, Recovers 127 Wraps of Cocaine

October 12, 2025

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 52-year-old businessman, Ejiofor Godwin Emeka, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano, for allegedly trafficking cocaine into Nigeria.

According to a statement released by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, Emeka, who operates boutiques in Lagos and Onitsha, Anambra State, was intercepted upon his arrival from Bangkok, Thailand, via Ethiopian Airlines flight ET 941 on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, following credible intelligence.

A body scan conducted on the suspect revealed he had ingested and concealed illicit substances. A search further uncovered 58 wraps of cocaine hidden in his underwear, while subsequent excretion observation led to the recovery of an additional 69 wraps over several days, bringing the total to 127 wraps weighing 1.388 kilograms.

The agency noted that the operation was part of intensified surveillance at Nigerian entry points to curb international narcotics smuggling networks.

“The suspect was placed under excretion observation, during which 69 wraps of cocaine were recovered in seven excretions,” NDLEA spokesperson Babafemi said. “This brings the total to 127 wraps, weighing 1.388 kilograms.”

The arrest comes amid ongoing anti-narcotics operations across the country. In a related development, NDLEA operatives at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, intercepted three consignments of illicit drugs including methamphetamine, pentazocine, and tramadol heading to the United Kingdom, as part of the same operational sweep announced by the agency.

The NDLEA reiterated its commitment to dismantling transnational drug cartels and ensuring that Nigerian airports do not serve as conduits for the trafficking of hard drugs.
