The charges stemmed from an incident where he was accused of spraying and tampering with Naira notes at a social gathering held in Eko Hotel, Lagos.

The case was presented before Justice Kehinde Ogundare. Representing the prosecution was Mrs Bilikisu Buhari, while the defendant was represented by Mr Chikaosolu Ojukwu, SAN. During the proceedings, the defence counsel raised a preliminary objection, questioning the court’s jurisdiction, and also submitted a bail application on behalf of Cubana Chief Priest.

The prosecution did not oppose the bail application. Upon hearing the charges, Cubana Chief Priest reaffirmed his plea of not guilty.

The defence counsel argued for bail on behalf of his client. He highlighted that the prosecution had previously admitted Cubana Chief Priest to bail due to his health condition, specifically noting palpitations attributed to his weight. In addition, he emphasized that the alleged offence is categorized as a misdemeanour, carrying a penalty of either a N50,000 fine or a six-month imprisonment.

Painting a positive picture of his client’s character, the counsel pointed out that he has no prior criminal record. Additionally, he stressed that the defendant is an employer, providing jobs to over 1000 individuals who rely on their employment for their livelihoods.
