Minister Of Education Calls On  Stakeholders To  Enhance Nigeria’s Education System

The Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman has called on stakeholders to complement the government initiatives in advancing the nation’s education sector.

Mamman who was represented by the Director of Legal Services at the Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs. Ezenobi Blessing Azorbo at the 35th convocation of Yaba College of Technology, Lagos on Thursday 23 November 2023, emphasized the importance of collective action in advancing Nigeria’s education system.

Azorbo commended the institution for its role in shaping the future of the nation, highlighting the dedicated efforts of stakeholders in achieving this milestone. She acknowledged the existing challenges within the education sector, including issues of accessibility, equity, funding, and capacity building for educators.

However, she reassured the audience of the government’s commitment to addressing these concerns through a 4-Year  plan,  unveiled after a National Stakeholders Workshop in October 2023.

She stressed the necessity for collaboration beyond governmental efforts. “Addressing these challenges requires collaborative efforts beyond the government,” she affirmed.

Azorbo urged industry leaders and stakeholders to contribute to initiatives such as research, structural development, scholarships for underprivileged students, capacity building, and graduate employment, emphasizing the transformative impact of a partnership between the government and various sectors.

 

Furthermore, the Director highlighted the importance of eradicating social vices within educational institutions, calling upon management, staff, and students to take decisive measures against issues like cultism, indecent dressing, and examination malpractices, emphasizing their threat to the goal of building world-class institutions.

 

Also, the Rector of Yaba College of Technology, Dr. Ibraheem Abdul, highlighted the achievements within the institution, including securing reaccreditation for programs, introducing new courses, and focusing on staff welfare and stakeholder engagements within a short span. He thereafter charged the students to be good ambassadors of the school. .

 

During the ceremony, three ‘outstanding” Nigerians, Lady Christine Doja Otedola, the motheeer of the foremost billionaire, Femi Otedola! Comrade Hassan Adebayo Sunmonu! and His Excellency, Engr. Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum were honored with fellowship awards for their contributions to national development and education.
