'Merry Men' Hits All Time High With ₦75.4 Million In Cinemas

With the month drawing to a close, ‘Merry Men: Nemesis’ shows no sign of slowing down at the box office, marking its third consecutive weekend triumph with a weekend collection of ₦13 million.

This second sequel in the ‘Merry Men’ franchise has solidified its position as the Nigerian audience’s top pick, retaining the title of the most-watched movie at cinemas nationwide since its debut on October 13, 2023.

According to data from the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN), ‘Merry Men: Nemesis’ started strong in its first week, closing at ₦33.4 million.

In the second week, it continued to impress with earnings of ₦28.3 million. Now, after its third weekend (from October 27 to 29, 2023), it has hit an impressive total of ₦75.4 million. The film’s enduring appeal and captivating storyline seem to have struck a chord with Nigerian moviegoers.

In the second position, we find ‘Freelance,’ an American action film featuring John Cena as Mason Pettits, a former special forces operator taking on a new security job. The Hollywood title grossed ₦12.3 million during its opening weekend on October 27, 2023.

A new entry in the cinema scene, ‘Trolls Band Together,’ claimed the third spot by grossing a total of ₦6.3 million over the weekend. The movie appears to have garnered a decent following with its entertaining narrative.

Coming in fourth place is ‘Small Talk,’ directed by Biodun Stephen. The movie revolves around a gate man played by Mr Marcaroni, who finds himself embroiled in a home robbery dilemma due to his loose tongue. The case takes an unexpected turn as the diligent police inspector, played by Lasisi Elenu, relentlessly pursues answers to the missing items.

The film, featuring a talented cast that includes Taye Arimoro, Moet Abebe, Blessing Nze, and Lizzy Jay, debuted on October 27, 2023, and closed the weekend with a gross of ₦5.7 million.
