Kanu is set to take over the reins of the 2003 and 2004 CAF Champions League winners from longstanding Chairman, Felix Agwu Anyansi.

Anyansi was in charge of the running of the club for a record 23 years and oversaw the glorious days of the club.

Anyansi remains the longest serving Chairman of any club in the history of club football in Nigeria.

He (Anyansi) is the First vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation with Shehu Gusau as the President after the NFF congress that took place on 30 September 2022 in Benin City, Edo state.

Kanu was a former player of Iwuanyanwu Nationale of Owerri before he signed for Dutch giants Ajax where he won the UEFA Champions League in the 1995/1996 season with current Enyimba coach, Finidi George his teammate at the club.

Kanu was captain of the Nigerian U-23 national team that won the gold medal at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta Georgia, USA.

Kanu was signed by Italian Serie A top side, Inter Milan but was diagnosed of a heart defect that almost put paid to his playing career.

Then Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger put faith in the silky skills of the player who was rated as the 6th best player in the word after the Olympics feat.

Kanu was part of the Arsenal Invincibles side that went a whole season unbeaten. He also played for West Bromwich Albion and Portsmouth in the English Premier League.
