Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has condemned killings in Southeast Nigeria, saying the group was founded on non-violence principle.

He was reacting to the recent killings of five soldiers and other civilians in Abia and other parts of Southeast.

Kanu assured that when he is granted freedom, all manner of insecurity in Southeast will stop, adding they are only for freedom and not to cause violence.

He said: “I condemn every manner of killing with all sincerity. IPOB was founded on non-violence principle and we have maintained that until this very day.”

“I am told that some of the soldiers killed are also our people and their families now made widows. The making of young widows is condemned in all sincerity. We don’t want anybody to die. We’re fighting for freedom, then how can we fight for death at the same time? It is not possible. We want people to be free, that’s what we’re fighting for,” Kanu added.

He said Africans have suffered a lot starting from slavery in Arabia, Europe and now  in America, adding  that “This is when to focus on this continent, and be what God wants us to be, so that they will know that we know what we are doing.”

Kanu  spoke in the presence of his lawyers led by Aloy Ejimakor.

The IPOB leader has been in the custody of the Department of State Service (DSS), since June 2021 when he was brought back to Nigeria from Kenya under controversial circumstances.
