A large number of insurance companies in Nigeria have started to go digital in the bid to satisfy customers, digital marketing expert and Chief Executive Officer, Smith Digital Consult, Mrs. Abiola Smith has said.

“Some have re-launched their websites, adding new features and other user- friendly features. Some have worked on the navigation of their websites, while others have decided to hyperlink their websites to different chat platforms that their customers can access easily for products,” she said.

In an interview with Prime Business Africa, Smith  noted that a lot companies had started to fit into the digital world.

“Digitalisation is becoming the new normal in the insurance industry here in Nigeria. And it’s good that companies are taking advantage of it in order to satisfy their customers’ needs but digitalisation without owning good marketing strategy makes you a copycat,” she added.

According to Smith,  digitalisation is not enough as insurance companies also need proper strategies.

“Having customers is one thing, keeping them is another, but you can’t keep them without prioritizing them, they will go to another firm that has their best interest at heart. Reducing rates to attract customers is not going to keep them; customers want to be treated right no matter how little they contribute to a company,” Smith said.

She also advised insurance companies to dig deep into the digital world and know how to secure their websites against theft.
