I’ll Make Anambra Economic Hub – Soludo Vows

New Anambra State governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has promised to make the State the economic hub of the entire Southeast through series of strategic programmes to be unveiled in the coming days of his administration.

Soludo, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), made this promise in his inaugural speech during swearing in ceremony which took place on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at the Government House Awka.

He called on all in the state to join him in actualising the goal.

The Soludo ordered ban of levy collections at motor parks and markets until the state comes up with a digital way of managing it. He said he would consequently sign an executive order to that effect, adding that anyone found collecting levies at the said places from tomorrow is on an illegal assignment.

He also urged members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to suspend their sit-at-home order which has been in place for than eight months, noting that the exercise is hurting the economy and educational system in the Southeast states.

He also promised to spearheading a tripartite meeting between the Federal Government, IPOB and southeast leaders to resolve the crisis.

The new governor who is a professor of economics from Isuofia in Aguata Local Government Areas of the state, was had elected on the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in an election that held on November 6 and 7 2021 where he defeated his closest rivals, Valentine Ozigbo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Andy Uba of All Progressives Congress (APC).

He won 19 of the 21 local government areas of the state to clinch the position.
The outgoing governor, Chief Willie Obiano during his farewell speech thanked people of the state for the opportunity given to him to serve.

Obiano had on Tuesday held a valedictory session where he handed over some state documents to Soludo and conducted him round the government house on a familiarization tour.

Prior to his inauguration, Soludo had raised an 80-man transition committee headed by former minister of Education, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili. The committee came up with a document detailing a 50 year development plan for the state which would guide the new governor in his administration and beyond.
