Nigerian Equity Market Records First Gain This Week

Ikeja Hotel, Beta Glass, Other Gainers Push Nigerian Stock Market Cap To N74.35bn

Data from the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) showed that the stock market capitalisation appreciated by 0.91 percent or N677.73 billion on Thursday, June 19.

According to the data, the capitalisation increased to N74.35 trillion, from N73.68 trillion reported on Wednesday, June 18.

The all-share index (ASI) went up by 1,074.26 basis points, from 116,786.87 ASI to 117,861.13 ASI.

Investors traded 893.96 million shares, worth N22.02 billion, in 17,257 deals, against the 640.08 million shares exchanged in 19,727 deals, worth N26.01 billion, the day before.

Top five gainers

  • Ikeja Hotel’s share price increased by N1.40 kobo to rise from N14 to N15.40 kobo per share.
  • Beta Glass’ share value grew by N25.05 kobo, from N250.95 kobo to N276 kobo per share.
  • Legend Internet ended trading at N7.20 kobo per share, from N6.55 kobo per share – indicating an increase of N0.65 kobo.
  • UPL gained N0.54 kobo to end trading at N6.02, having opened with N5.48 kobo.
  • Eterna’s share value was up by N3.80 kobo, after closing at N42.50 kobo from N38.70 kobo per share.

Top five losers

  • Guinea Insurance’s share price depreciated by 9.21 percent, dwindling from N0.76 kobo to N0.69 kobo per share.
  • HMCall recorded a N0.25 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N4 after opening with N4.25 kobo per share.
  • C&I LEasing lost N0.27 kobo in its share price after trading hours, to sell at N4.35 kobo from N4.62 kobo per share.
  • McNichols reported a decline of N0.13 kobo from the previous day’s share price of N2.33 kobo to end trading at N2.20 kobo per share.
  • Fidson recorded a N2 decline in its share price to end trading at N41 after opening with N43 per share.

  • Champion Brew reported that 332.29 million shares valued at N2.26 billion were traded on its floor.
  • GTCO recorded 62.66 million shares valued at N5 billion.
  • PZ saw investors trade 46.58 million of its shares valued at N1.47 billion.
  • Zenith Bank recorded 37.55 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N1.88 billion.
  • Access Holdings reported 35.98 million shares valued at N787.10 million exchanged in investors’ hands.
