‘Ijaw Becomes First Ethnic Nationality To Sign Niger Delta Peoples Charter’

THE Ijaw ethnic nationality, on Thursday, November 25, 2021, became the first ethnic nationality to sign the Niger Delta Peoples Charter (NDPC), a statement signed by its spokesperson, Bart. Ovunda Eni.

The NDPC was signed on behalf of the Ijaw ethnic nationality by His Royal Majesty, King Frank Okiakpe, Agadagba X of Gbaraun Kingdom, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

According to Ovunda Eni, other stakeholders to have signed the NDPC so far are Emeritus Professor Ebiegberi Joe Alagoa representing Bayelsa, and Engr Olu Andah Wai-Ogosu representing Rivers State.

The Niger Delta Peoples Charter solicit over 70 signatures from ethnic nationality representatives, State representatives, and representatives of Pan Niger Delta Organisations and groups. The Charter declares the rights of the ethnic nationalities of the region to self-determination among others.
Proponents of the Charter said it would be presented to the world on February 23, 2022, according to tona statement signed by Eni.
