Usher Hints At Afrobeat Collaboration

American R&B icon Usher recently disclosed that his collaboration with Nigerian artists Burna Boy and Pheelz in his latest album, was driven by his desire to immerse himself in the Afrobeats wave.

Embracing the Afrobeats wave, Usher featured Pheelz in ‘Ruin,’ the lead track of his new album, and enlisted Burna Boy for the album’s eponymous song, ‘Homecoming.’

In an interview with Apple Music, Usher highlighted Pheelz’s pivotal role in connecting him with Burna Boy. He expressed, “I am all about collaboration and bringing African, you know, Nigerian culture to my own world. Their music is really popular now. I wanted to be part of it [Afrobeats], that’s why I went to Africa to make this album.”

Reflecting on his time in Ghana and Nigeria, Usher shared insights into his immersion in the vibrant music scene. Working closely with Pheelz, the duo crafted ‘Homecoming,’ with Usher recognizing Burna Boy’s unique artistry as essential for elevating the track’s authenticity and appeal.
