Manchester United survived another scare in their hunt for top four places in the Premier League with a 4-2 win over battling Leeds United.

The eternal rivals met in the first of Super Sunday clashes and United romped to a 2-0 lead before Leeds fought back to restore parity.

However substitutes Fred and Anthony Elanga scored Man United’s third and fourth goals to deny the relegation-threatened opponents the chance to get a decent result.

Manchester United have now scored 10 Premier League goals via substitutes this season, four more than any other side. Indeed, five of those substitute goals have come under Ralf Rangnick.

Marcelo Vielsa left out Raphinha from the starting lineup but called him up from the bench to great effect as he scored the second Leeds’ goal after Rodrygo’s blinder.

Raphinha and Rodrigo both scored within a 24-second period to make it 2-2 early in the second half, after headers from Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes sent the visitors into the interval with a two-goal lead.

The result leaves the Whites five points clear of the drop zone after 18th-placed Watford earned three points against Aston Villa on Saturday.
