Disasi joined the French Ligue 1 side for just over £10m three years ago and helped the club to two third-place finishes during his time at the club.

Mauricio Pochettino required a new centre-back after Wesley Fofana was struck down by a long-term knee injury.

Disasi will join Levi Colwill, Benoit Badiashile and Thiago Silva as the Chelsea manager’s premier defenders with Trevoh Chalobah likely to depart after this arrival.

Disasi, a France international who can also play at right-back, is excited by the challenge ahead.

He told the club’s official website: “I’m very happy to be part of this club, and I hope to see you soon at the Bridge.

“The pace, the impact and the aggressivity [of the Premier League], I think I’m ready for this and I’m confident about my game.

“I’m very happy that I’ve seen the stadium. I’m happy and excited to start.”

Chelsea are next in action in nine days’ time for their Premier League opener against Liverpool.
