German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich on Sunday evening showed no mercy towards Auckland City FC in the one-sided Group C opening game of the FIFA Club World Cup as they romped to a 10-0 win over the semi professional football players.

Kingsley Coman opened the floodgate of goals for the Bavarians in the 6th minute with a textbook header.

Sacha Boey doubled the lead from a Coman knockdown on the half-volley 18 minutes after the first goal.

France international of Nigerian descent, Michael Olise made it 3-0 after he turned in Thomas Muller’s cross at the far post.

Barely 60 seconds later, Bayern made it 4-0 yet again through Coman for his brace.

The winger let fly a left-footed drive into the bottom corner.

Muller who is playing on his last major tournament for Bayern guided Olise’s cross past Auckland goalkeeper Conor Tracey.

Tracey, a factory worker back at his native New Zealand, had no answers to the sixth goal when another player of Nigerian origin, Jamal Musiala grabbed the sixth of the evening.

Musiala missed the last six games of the 2024/2025 season through a hamstring injury.

Musiala had another goal to his name from the penalty spot while Muller got on to the end of a Serge Gnabry cross.

The Bayern Munich emphatic win surpassed the previous biggest win at the FIFA Club World Cup – Al Hilal’s 6-1 win over Al Jazira in 2022.

Bayern Munich faced a side that could not field their full squad today.

Auckland City, from New Zealand, are the most successful club in Oceania, with 13 OFC Champions League titles.

However, they are a part-time team, and not all players were granted unpaid leave for the Club World Cup.

Auckland City’s best paid player would have to play for 107 YEARS to earn Harry Kane’s weekly salary.

Auckland City’s amateur players have a salary cap of $90 per week.

Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane earns $503,484 per week
