FCTA Seizes 69 Vehicles In Ongoing Cleanup Operations

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has intensified its battle against lawless vehicles by confiscating 69 vehicles in Abuja.

Abdul-Lateef Bello, the Director of the FCT Directorate of Road Traffic Service (DRTS) stated on Monday that these seizures were part of a drive to purge the city of illegal commercial vehicle operators.

In a stern warning to offenders, Bello said, “We won’t tolerate violations such as improper parking, substandard vehicles, or one-chance scams in our city.”

These vehicles were nabbed by the FCT combined Security Task Force at various spots across Abuja, emphasizing their commitment to safeguarding lives and property.

Bello continued, “We’re resolute in keeping our city free from disturbances and nuisances.”

Highlighting the consequences for vehicle owners, he noted that they would face legal prosecution in the FCT Mobile Court, situated within the DRTS premises.

However, Bello revealed that three of the impounded vehicles were linked to one-chance scams and would be handed over to the police for further legal action.

Addressing the root of this menace, Bello blamed the inadequacies of the city’s mass transportation system, which has left a void for criminals to exploit.

Peter Olumuji, Secretary of the Command-and-Control Unit at FCTA, displayed a confiscated sharp object from one of the suspected one-chance operators. He affirmed the administration’s commitment to eradicating this threat and urged road users to choose registered and painted taxis for their safety.

Efforts are underway to rectify transportation deficiencies, reassuring residents of safer options in the future.

Mukhtar Galadima, Director of the Department of Development Control at FCTA, echoed concerns about rising criminal activities and indiscipline in the FCT. He pledged ongoing efforts to educate road users, advising against unpainted taxis and those with improper number plates.

In this crackdown, the FCTA sends a resounding message: Abuja’s streets will be safe and orderly, and rogue operators will face the consequences.
