Marvel’s Fantastic Four: First Steps is facing a major loss at the box office. After a $118 million opening, the superhero reboot dropped to just $11.7 million on its second Friday, an 80% fall that has surprised both Marvel and theatre owners.
The film’s domestic total now sits at $170 million and is expected to hit around $198 million by the end of the weekend, with a production cost of over $200 million.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelStarring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn, Fantastic Four was seen as Marvel’s big comeback after recent disappointments like Thunderbolts and The Marvels. Its first-week numbers gave hope that Marvel had found its next big hit, but the steep second-week drop suggests the movie hasn’t pulled in audiences beyond hardcore comic book fans.
While Fantastic Four struggles to hold the top spot, new releases are making waves. Universal and DreamWorks’ animated sequel The Bad Guys 2 opened strong with $9.1 million on Friday across 3,852 theaters and is on track for a $22 million weekend. The family-friendly film, made for $80 million, reunites its popular crew of wisecracking animal thieves for one last heist, with voices from Sam Rockwell, Marc Maron, and Craig Robinson.

Paramount’s reboot of The Naked Gun also impressed on opening day, bringing in $6.3 million on Friday. The comedy, led by Liam Neeson as Detective Frank Drebin Jr., is expected to finish its first weekend with around $16.5 million , a solid start in a market that rarely sees big-screen comedies. Directed by Akiva Schaffer, the $42 million film also stars Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, and CCH Pounder.
Neon’s thriller Together, starring real-life couple Alison Brie and Dave Franco, debuted in sixth place with $2.1 million on Friday. The indie horror film is expected to earn between $7.5 million and $10 million over its first five days in theaters, against a $17 million budget.
Meanwhile, James Gunn’s Superman continues to hold steady in fourth place, adding $4 million on Friday and pushing its domestic total past $306 million. Universal’s Jurassic World Rebirth rounds out the top five with $2.4 million, heading toward $317 million domestically.
