FA Cup: Chelsea Edges Past Leeds, To Face Leicester City In Quarterfinals

Chelsea advanced to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup with a last gasp Conor Gallagher goal ensuring that the Blues avoided an upset against Leeds United in a dramatic 3-2 win at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, reports Prime Business Africa.

Chelsea seemed to have no answers to Leeds’ resilience following an early strike by Mateo Joseph who scored his first senior goals for Leeds.

The second-placed side in the Championship only led for six minutes before the Blues equalised through Senegalese Nicolas Jackson who made it 1-1 with a low strike as he profited from Moises Caicedo’s pass.

Ukrainian international Mykhailo Mudryk swept home the ball for the Blues’ second goal in the 37th minute as Raheem Sterling delivered a perfect low cross into the box.

Leeds were obviously the better team at the start of the second half and got a deserved equaliser as Joseph got his second goal of the night with a header at the back post to connect with Jaidon Anthony’s excellent cross.

Anthony could not convert two chances to put the visitors ahead before substitute Gallagher proved to be the match winner.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side will visit Wembley Stadium for the semifinals of the competition if they get past Championship leaders, Leicester City, in the quarterfinals stage.
