Equity Investors Make N90 billion, As Stock Market Closes High

Nigerian stock exchange closed with N90 billion gain on Monday, 6 February 2023, as the market capitalisation increased from N29.52 trillion to N29.61 trillion.

The All-Share Index gained 154.65 basis points on Monday to rise from 54,213.09 ASI to 54,367.74 ASI.

Investors traded N4.79 billion for 191.63 million shares in 4,359 deals on Monday, against the N2.35 billion exchanged for 268.01 million shares traded in 4,017 deals on Friday.

Top five gainers 

  • Sovereign Insurance share appreciated by 10 per cent to rise from N0.30kobo to N0.33kobo per share  
  • Linkage Assurance grew by 8.89 per cent, up from N0.45kobo to N0.49kobo per share  
  • International Energy Insurance ended trading with N1.07 from N0.99kobo per share, rising by 8.08 per cent.  
  • IMG gained N0.35kobo to end trading at N8.05, having opened with N7.70kobo per share.  
  • Courtville stock was up by 4.08 per cent, closing with N0.51kobo from N0.49kobo per share 

Top five losers 

  • McNichols depreciated by 8.96 per cent, dwindling from N0.67kobo to N0.61kobo per share.  
  • Prestige also fell by 8.70 per cent to end trading at N0.42kobo, after opening with N0.46kobo per share.  
  • FTN Cocoa followed the same path, losing 6.06 per cent after trading hours, to sell at N0.31kobo from N0.33kobo per share.  
  • Sunu Assurance reported a decline of 5.88 per cent from the previous day’s share price of N0.34kobo to end trading at N0.32kobo per share.  
  • Japaul Gold share depreciated to N0.32kobo from N0.34kobo, after losing 5.88 per cent during trading hours.   

Top five trading equities in the stock exchange 

  • GTCO reported 50.58 million shares valued at N1.27 billion were traded on its floor    
  • Zenith Bank recorded 18.01 million shares valued at N452.43 million  
  • Chams saw investors trade 16.62 million of its shares valued at N4.45 million  
  • UBA recorded 14.93 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N125.38 million  
  • Transcorp reported 14.17 million shares, valued at N18.78 million, exchanged investors’ hands
