Phil Foden struck a magnificent finish Wednesday night to ensure that Manchester City extend their winning run in the English Premier League to ten wins after their 1-0 win against Brentford.
City were halfway through the game when they realised that Chelsea were held to a 1-1 draw by Brighton and Hoves earlier on the night as Danny Welbeck produced a glorious header to cancel a Romelu Lukaku goal.
On Tuesday, Liverpool had been beaten 1-0 by 2016 league champions Leicester City.
Chelsea will host title rivals Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Sunday with a possible defensive conundrum on their hands should Reece James’ injury prove serious with Thiago Silva and Christensen already in the treatment room ahead of that crucial ‘Super Sunday’ match.
City are atop the league table on 50 points with Chelsea on 42 points. Liverpool is one point adrift of the Blues but could go past them with a win on Sunday. Arsenal are in fourth place on 35 points.
