Arsenal required less efforts to keep their title aspirations alive on Monday night as they beat bottom side Sheffield United 6-0 to underline their Premier League title aspirations, Prime Business Africa reports.

Five unanswered first half goals had already made the evening a difficult one for the Blades.

Martin Odegaard began the goals rush when he finished a sweeping move inside the Sheffield penalty area with consumate assurance,

Jayden Bogle inadvertently conceded an own goal before Kai Havertz made it  3-0  before Martin Martinelli and Declan Rice all scored for the 5-0 obliteration in the first half.

Ben White added the gloss to the scoreline in the second half when he received a good pass from Kai Havertz and managed to find the bottom right corner with a left-footed low shot.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta introduced Cedric Soares, Gabriel Jesus and Thomas Partey moments after he brought on Fabio Viera for the injured Bukayo Saka.

However Saka was not the only Arsenal injury worry on the night as Gabriel Martinelli went off injured in what poked quite a serious problem on his ankle. He was replaced by Leandro Trossard.

Martinelli’s effort was the 300th Premier League goal Arsenal have scored under Arteta in his 161st top-flight game in charge – only Pep Guardiola (120), Jurgen Klopp (142) and Manuel Pellegrini (149) achieved a treble century in quicker time.

Arsenal thus matched their biggest away win in their league history and broke an English football goalscoring record with the emphatic win.

Arsenal’s team will next face Brentford while Sheffield United take on Bournemouth at the Vitality stadium this weekend.
