Men of the Department of State Services on Tuesday manhandled the commander of  Ikoyi Prisons in the premises of the Federal High Court in Lagos State.

Officials of both federal government agencies had a standoff at the court premises over who takes custody of the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria governor, Godwin Emefiele.

Mr Emefiele, who is facing a two-count charge bordering on alleged illegal possession of a firearm brought against him by the Federal Ministry of Justice, was granted bail in the sum of N20 million with one surety after pleading “not guilty.”

Prime Business Africa (PBA) earlier reported that a mild drama played out at the Federal High Court, Lagos State, between DSS operatives and officials of Nigeria Correctional Service as they scrambled over who keeps custody of Emefiele. The scuffle occurred just as Emefiele’s lawyers were trying to perfect his bail conditions.

PBA understands that NCS officials were trying to take Emefiele into custody since he has been granted bail but the secret police agents were at the same time perfecting plans re-arrest him.

The Ikoyi Prison official was rough-handled by the DSS operatives, who shuffled him into their vehicle and later released him.

The DSS officials later overpowered NCS and finally took Emefiele back to custody with their white Hilux van.
