Adam Namadi, son of former Vice-President Namadi Sambo, has reportedly asked delegates to refund the N2 million each, he doled out, wooing them to vote for him.

The son of the former VP having secured just two votes at the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) primaries in Kaduna North Federal Constitution of the House of Representatives, was reported to have promised to add N1.5 million to the amount given to each of the delegates if he had trounced the contenders.

But, Samaila Suleiman, the incumbent representative of the constituency carried the day as he defeated Namadi and Shehu Usman, ABG.

Interestingly, the delegates told journalists that the incumbent actually paid more so carried the day.

Reportedly, Suleiman had distributed between N3.5m and N4m to each delegate while ABG gave out N2.5m in cash and Namadi had distributed N2m to the delegates with a promise to make up if he won.

Suleiman, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Special Duties, left the APC following the interest of Governor Nasir el-Rufai’s eldest son in his seat at the green chamber.

Note that Adam Namadi is the son of a popular Nigerian politician, Namadi Sambo who was Vice President of Nigeria from 19 May 2010 to 29 May 2015. He previously served as Governor of Kaduna State from 2007 to 2010.

In May 2007, Namadi assumed office as Governor of Kaduna State. His term ended on 18 May 2010.  While still serving as governor, he was picked by the then president of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, to become the Vice President.

Politically speaking, Namadi’s inability to win the ticket has threatened to bequeath credence to a news report in a faraway 2014, entitled “Namadi Sambo a nobody in Kaduna politics – El Rufai.”

In the report, El-Rufai, now Kaduna state governor, had affirmed that defeating the PDP, in Kaduna state would be as simple as reading “ABCD.”

Asked whether the APC will be threatened with presence of Vice President Namadi Sambo, El-Rufai said “What Vice President… who has never won election in his own polling unit? Forget about the Vice President…”
