Disneyland is temporarily suspending fire effects in their parks worldwide after an animatronic dragon caught fire during a live show in California.

The fire occurred during the final showing of the 30-minute park experience, ‘Fantasmic’, and emergency crews responded to the scene. Several Disneyland cast members were treated for possible smoke inhalation, but no guests or fire-fighters were injured.

The event uses a number of special effects and props for a story featuring Disney mascot Mickey, including a 45-foot version of Maleficent as a fire-breathing dragon. As a result of the fire, park officials said that effects at other shows across its parks portfolio will be evaluated. The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.

Disneyland officials have released a statement, saying, “We are temporarily suspending fire effects similar to those used at Disneyland park’s Fantasmic at select shows and entertainment experiences globally out of an abundance of caution following the Fantasmic prop fire at Disneyland park. The continued safety of our cast and guests is of the utmost importance.”

Video footage of the incident shows the Maleficent dragon prop catching fire in its head before the flames spread to the rest of the prop, with smoke from the fire billowing out across the park. Arson investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire.

While the incident is concerning, it is important to note that no one was harmed. Disneyland has a reputation for being one of the safest theme parks in the world and takes the safety of its guests and cast members very seriously. The decision to temporarily suspend fire effects shows the park’s commitment to keeping everyone safe.

Disneyland is taking proactive measures to ensure the continued safety of its guests and cast members. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and park officials are evaluating the effects at other shows across its parks portfolio.
