Dbanj Cleared Of 2020 R@pe Allegations

Nigerian singer Dapo Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’banj, has been officially cleared of the controversial r@pe allegations from June 2020. The Nigeria Police Force and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) concluded their investigations, resulting in the exoneration of the artist.

The allegations originated from a young lady named Seyitan Babatayo, who claimed that D’banj had taken advantage of her at the Glee Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos, back in 2018.

The gravity of the accusations sent shock through the entertainment industry, putting the singer’s career and reputation on the line. However, the Nigeria Police Force and the ICPC, through thorough investigations, found no substantial evidence to support the allegations.

An affidavit submitted by Abuja-based lawyer Toheeb Lawal to the District Court of Abuja played a crucial role in D’banj’s legal vindication.

The affidavit highlighted the absence of a medical report on the victim and the lack of adduced facts or corroborative evidence to substantiate the r@pe allegations. The clearance by both the Nigeria Police Force and the ICPC, marked as exhibits A and B, further reinforced D’banj’s innocence.

The complainant, Seyitan Babatayo, voluntarily withdrew the petition and discontinued the investigation through a letter dated July 17, 2020. This decision added another layer of complexity to the case, prompting speculation and raising questions about the circumstances surrounding the withdrawal.

The singer faced not only public condemnation but also a legal battle as he sought to clear his name. D’banj, maintaining his innocence, took a stand against the allegations, publicly addressing the matter and initiating legal action against Babatayo, demanding ₦100 million in compensation.
