Davido Timeless Concert Event Review

After taking a break from the limelight, Davido makes his comeback with ‘The Timeless Experience’. Davido’s much-awaited fourth album, “Timeless,” was released on March 31, 2023, and has already broken multiple first-week streaming records in Nigeria and across the continent.

As Davido continues to prove why he’s the first among equals, he embarked on a global promotional tour, performing in New York, London, and even appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. However, it was his homecoming concert in Lagos, Nigeria, at the iconic Tafawa Balewa Square that truly captured the hearts of his fans.

Despite the overwhelming anticipation for the concert, there were some challenges that marred the experience. The ticketing process was chaotic, with long delays and confusion over entry points, leading to non-ticket holders breaching the gate.

Crowd management was also poor, with ticket holders struggling to find their designated stands, and only VIPs being provided with chairs, while others had to rent plastic chairs at high rates.

The parking system was controlled by street urchins, and the limited space resulted in difficulties for concert-goers in parking and leaving the venue.

However, amidst the challenges, there were several positive aspects of the concert. Security was tight, with military, police, paramilitary, and private security officers ensuring safety and curbing any disruptions.

The stage was set up in a grand and exquisite manner, with impressive lighting, screens, and sound, creating a visually stunning atmosphere. The performances were also noteworthy, with emerging artists, DJs, and guest artists delivering captivating acts.

The highlight of the night was undoubtedly Davido’s own performance, assisted by The Composers. He delivered a breathtaking 2-hour-long set, showcasing his talent as one of the finest in the history of Afrobeats. His connection with the crowd was palpable, as they passionately sang along to his classic songs and tracks from his new album. His stage presence, energy, and interaction with the audience were truly remarkable, and he seamlessly collaborated with guest artists, leaving the audience in awe.

Notable moments included a solo saxophone performance for his hit song “Jowo” and a mesmerizing performance with Asake, where two hitmakers shared the stage in a rare show of talent.

The overwhelming support and emotional connection between Davido and his fans were evident throughout the concert, with fans chanting his name and showing unwavering support. It was a truly timeless experience that will be etched in the memories of all those present, showcasing Davido’s artistry and the unbreakable bond he shares with his fans.
