Hon. Abdussamad Dasuki, the member representing Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has announced that he will not seek re-election in the 2027 general elections; a move he described as a “personal sacrifice” to promote youth inclusion in governance.
In a statement released on Sunday, the 47-year-old lawmaker said his decision followed extensive consultations with his team, family, and political mentor, former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal. Dasuki, who has served in various public offices since 2011, said his choice was driven by conviction, not fatigue or political disillusionment.
“Since 2011, I have been privileged to serve you in the State House of Assembly, in the House of Representatives, and in the State Executive Council,” he said. “In these roles, I sponsored bills, moved motions, and initiated policies that sought to bring security to our communities, empowerment to our youth and women, prosperity to our people, and development to our state and nation.”

He revealed that the project was launched on October 1, 2025, during Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary at the Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja, where youth leaders, activists, and politicians gathered to demand “real, meaningful inclusion of young Nigerians in governance.”

“The Nigeria we yearn for is only possible through sacrifice,” Dasuki said. “After due consultation with my team, our leader, my family, and most importantly, my conscience, I have decided not to seek re-election to the House of Representatives in 2027. This decision is not born out of fatigue or disillusionment. It is borne out of a higher calling one that transcends ambition or position.”
Dasuki emphasized that his decision was consistent with his position as interim chairman and promoter of the Future Is Now Project, adding that stepping aside was the only way to give credibility to the call for generational change.
“I am still a youth by all standards, but I have crossed that 40-year threshold we have proposed for the House of Representatives. If we are to give meaning to our words and inspire the trust of the next generation, we must be willing to sacrifice,” he said.
Political analysts have described Dasuki’s decision as a rare act of political selflessness in a landscape where lawmakers often seek multiple terms. Observers say his move could signal a broader generational shift in Sokoto politics and possibly inspire similar actions among reform-minded politicians nationwide.
As he bows out of active electoral politics, Dasuki reaffirmed his commitment to the development of Sokoto State and Nigeria, pledging to continue his work in education, youth and women empowerment, and policy advocacy.
He also paid tribute to Tambuwal, describing him as a “mentor and leader who believed in me and gave me the opportunity to serve.”
“To my constituents, you gave me your trust, and I carried it like a badge of honour. I seek your support in enabling this groundbreaking transition to a new era,” he said. “To the youth of this constituency, Sokoto State, and Nigeria: The time is now! No more waiting, no more excuses, no more silence. Take your place. Stand tall. Lead with courage, with integrity, with vision.”
Concluding his statement, Dasuki said he hopes to leave behind a legacy that will inspire a new generation of Nigerian leaders who understand the importance of knowing when to step aside.
“As I step aside, I wish to bequeath a new legacy in Nigeria’s political history one that showcases leaders who know when to exit, paving the way for a fresher generation. Serving you has been the greatest honour of my life.”
Hon. Abdussamad Dasuki was first elected to the Sokoto State House of Assembly in 2011 and later served as Commissioner for Finance under Governor Tambuwal before moving to the House of Representatives. Over the years, he has built a reputation for promoting transparency, youth empowerment, and technology-driven governance.
Political observers note that his early withdrawal from the 2027 race nearly two years ahead could influence succession plans within his constituency and test his party’s commitment to generational inclusion in Sokoto politics.
