The Apapa Customs Command has hit a milestone by recording an N489 billion revenue for the first quarter of 2024.

Command’s Public Relations Officer, Usman Abubakar, revealed that the revenue collected during this period exceeded N212.5 billion, marking a remarkable 100 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023.

Command’s Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Babajide Jaiyeoba, attributed this success to the cooperation of officers and port stakeholders. He emphasized the critical role of the Apapa Command in realizing the Customs’ annual target of N5.7 trillion for 2024.

“The almost N2 trillion target set for the command in 2024 is attainable through diligent adherence to customs regulations and procedures,” stated Jaiyeoba. He commended the officers for their punctuality, diligence, and commitment to their duties.

Jaiyeoba stressed the importance of compliance among port users, highlighting the benefits that come with honest declaration. “Making honest declaration puts the declarant at a vantage position to have a credible reputation and enjoy the benefits that come with earned integrity such as fast track and possible migration to the authorized economic operator (AEO),” he remarked.

He urged all stakeholders in the Apapa Port to continue supporting efforts towards achieving an efficient system where everyone abides by the rules for smoother import/export cargo clearance.

Furthermore, Jaiyeoba emphasized the significance of compliance in saving time and money, as compliant cargoes are less cumbersome to process and do not face seizure or penalties. He reiterated his commitment to regular engagement with stakeholders to sustain the momentum of achievements and prevent smuggling activities.

“As we step into the second quarter of 2024, I am confident that we will continue to excel in revenue collection, facilitate more trade through our port, and uphold our commitment to preventing smuggling,” Jaiyeoba concluded.

The Apapa Customs Command’s accomplishment signifies a positive outlook for revenue generation and trade facilitation in Nigeria’s maritime sector, reinforcing the importance of compliance and cooperation among all stakeholders.
