Tunde Onakoya Set To Break World Record

Nigerian chess master and philanthropist Tunde Onakoya is gearing up for an extraordinary feat in New York City’s Times Square. On the 17th of April 2024, he will embark on a mission to break the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon, aiming to play for 58 hours without a single defeat. However, his endeavour extends far beyond personal achievement; it is driven by a desire to empower millions of disadvantaged children across Africa through the universal language of chess.

As the founder of Chess in Slums Africa, Onakoya has dedicated his life to providing opportunities for underprivileged youth who lack access to formal education.

Through his organization, he brings the transformative power of chess to communities where resources are scarce but dreams are abundant. For him, this Guinness World Record attempt is not just about setting a new benchmark; it is a symbolic gesture of hope and determination for those who dare to dream against all odds.

In a statement, Tunde Onakoya expressed his motivation: “Doing this for the dreams of millions of children across Africa without access to education.” His words echo the sentiment that education is the most potent tool for breaking the cycle of poverty and inequality. Through chess, he instills invaluable skills such as critical thinking, strategic planning, and perseverance, nurturing a generation of resilient and resourceful individuals who can navigate life’s challenges with confidence.
