The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has given qualified teams an added reason to compete at the 8th edition of African Nations Championship (CHAN) with 75% in prize money.

This amount reflects a substantial increase of 75% compared to the prize awarded to the Senegalese national team during the previous tournament held in Algeria two years ago.

In addition to the winner’s prize, CAF has announced that the total prize pool for the competition has also seen a considerable boost, rising to $10.4 million. This amount represents a 32% increase over the previous total, underlining CAF’s commitment to enhancing the financial aspects of the tournament and supporting African football.
As it stands, 19 countries have already secured their spots in this biennial competition, showcasing the widespread interest and competitiveness of African national teams. The draw ceremony, where participating teams will be organized into groups, is set to take place at the International Convention Centre in Nairobi, Kenya on Wednesday, January 15.
Recall that Senegal beat host Algeria 5-4 on penalties after a 0-0 draw to win the the last edition of African Nations Championship, becoming the only country to win both the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the African Nations Championship (CHAN)
Participation in CHAN has increased considerable from 8 teams at the maiden edition in 2009 to 19 and still counting in the current edition. Thirty goals have been scored in the final matches of the championship in the past seven editions including 4-3 and 5-4 penalties recorded at the Libya and Ghana in 2014 and between Senegal and Algeria in 2022 respectively.
