CAF Confed Cup: Berkane Holds Bendel Insurance In Pulsating Draw

The chances of Bendel Insurance advancing to the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup took a big hit on Saturday evening as they were held to a 1-1 draw by former winners of the tournament, RS Berkane in the first leg of the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Former CAF Champions League winners RS Berkane of Morocco secured a favourable away result against Nigeria’s representative Bendel Insurance in Benin City Edo State.

The first leg of the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup was held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium and it ended 2-2 in favour of the North African country.

The host netted twice with the opening goal in the first half of the game before Hamza El Moussaoui equalised just before halftime.

Vincent Augustus restored the Insurance lead in the 60th minute and seized control of the game.

The Moroccan side scored a leveller in the 78th minute through Mohammed Mourabt after the Insurance backline failed to clear their lines.

The second leg is slated for Rabat, next weekend and the winner over the two legs will progress to the group stage of the competition.

Rivers United are Nigeria’s second representative in the second round of qualifiers of the competition.
