August 9, 2022

Multiple Grand slam tennis winner Serena Williams on Tuesday announced that she will be retiring from the game albeit she is not giving a firm date for her exit.

The 40-year-old Williams still hopes to play at the US Open in New York later this month.

Williams’ decision is primarily due to family reasons and not necessarily her age as she wants to spend more time with her five-year-old, Olympia, and her husband, Alexis Ohanian.

The couple hopes to have a second child, and she doesn’t want to try to come back from another pregnancy.

The announcement comes following her first win of the season, a two-set victory at the National Bank Open.
