Arsenal Mull Martinez Re-signing As Possible Raya Replacement

May 27, 2025

Premier League giants, Arsenal, are considering re-signing their former goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez, as a possible replacement for David Raya.

Raya has had stellar performances for the Gunners, which has seen him win the Premier League Golden Gloves prize for two consecutive seasons.

Raya has the highest clean sheets of 13 games and the fewest goals conceded – playing in all 38 league games of the 2024/2025 season.

Following his successful seasons for Arsenal that have finished in second place for three consecutive seasons, a report cited in The Sun indicate that Raya’s success may result in him being a target for some La Liga clubs.

Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid were named on their Tuesday report as likely destinations.

Martinez left Arsenal in 2018 in search of regular playing time and was a World Cup winner with Argentina in 2022.

Martinez was sent off in Aston Villa’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester United in their last game of the season on Sunday.

Arsenal will allow second choice goalkeeper Neto return to parent club, Bournemouth, after a season long loan deal.

The Brazilian played only one game all season for Mikel Arteta’s side – an FA Cup game back in January.

A competitor for the first choice custodian is in demand at the club with several goalkeepers linked with a move to the club.

According to ace football journalist, Don Draper, on his X account, Aston Villa have in fact tried in vain previously to cash in on the experienced goalkeeper.

“Without the CL, Aston Villa also need to comply with the PL’s new financial rules.

“They’ve been trying for a while to offload Emiliano Martinez, & they did the same with Douglas Luiz, who is set to leave and wants to return to the Premier League since Juventus no longer want to keep him.”

Arsenal will travel to Hong Kong this summer for their preseason friendlies
