“Attackers remotely tried to compromise the iPhone,” Apple stated in the notification email, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation. The email, seen by Reuters, conveyed Apple’s detection of attempts to compromise iPhones associated with specific Apple IDs.

Apple’s website further elaborated on the nature of these threats, highlighting the sophistication of mercenary spyware attacks. These attacks, historically linked with state actors and private companies, pose a significant risk to user privacy and security.

“Mercenary spyware attacks are exceptionally well-funded and they evolve,” Apple warned on its website, underlining the gravity of the situation. The company stressed that its threat notifications serve as high-confidence alerts and should be taken seriously by affected users.
