One of Nigeria oldest universities, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Kaduna State has honoured the General Secretary of Nigeria Football Federation, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi as its Sport Philanthropist of the Year.

The NFF boss, Sanusi is an alumni of the University and is said to still show great interest in projects that advance the cause of the institution on various fronts, Prime Business Africa gathered.

Meanwhile the ABU Microfinance Bank was conferred with the Corporate version of the award.

According to a special bulletin of the school, a total of 117 staff and units of the university were due to be conferred with “various categories of awards for their outstanding contributions to the objectives of the University and to national and international developments” on Wednesday, 24 January 2024.

The Ahmadu Bello University bulletin further reported that “their nominations were contained in a report of the University Reward and Recognition System Committee submitted to the University Management on Monday, 22nd January 2024.”

The seven-member Committee chaired by Professor Sani Abdullahi recommended 34 different categories of reward and recognition for staff and service units of the university.

The university’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Kabiru Bala had on 14th December 2023, approved the setting up of the Committee to institute a reward and special recognition system for staff members in general, and those who occupy positions of authority in the management of the University.

Founded on 4th October 1962 as the University of Northern Nigeria, the Ahmadu Bello University is West Africa’s largest university with 82 academic departments, about 50,00 students and half-a-million alumni. It is named after the highly-respected first Premier of the Northern Region, Sir Ahmadu Bello.
