The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Morocco and Libya earlier scheduled to hold on Saturday, September 9 in the Moroccan city of Agadir will be played on a later date.

The game was called off following the devastating earthquake which left more than 800 people losing their lives and hundreds injured.

CAF will announce a new date and details regarding the match in due course.

In a statement made by CAF, the football ruling body in Africa expresses its condolences to the families who lost their loved ones, the Fédération Royale de Football and the people of Morocco.

There were moments of silence before the start of all the Africa Cup of Nations Côte d’Ivoire 2023 qualifying matches on Saturday (9 September).

That gesture will continue with the games on Sunday until Tuesday when the qualification games will come to an end in honour the people who lost their lives during the tragedy in Morocco.

The tournament will hold between January and February 2024 after it was pushed back by a period of one year as hosts Cote d’Ivorie were deemed not to be ready earlier for the continent’s greatest football showpiece.
